How to become a jumping official?

Our NAMEF officials are listed on different panels according to their expertise and eligibility to judge the different levels. Once you have full filled all requirements, you start as Learner Judge. Over the years, you can succeed up to the FEI Level.

Where do I start to become a Learner Judge?

  1. Apply via email at jumping@namef.org.na.
  2. Receive the Officials Logbook Show Jumping which serves as record of all your activities.
  3. Write and pass an entry level test.
  4. Work at 6 National shows in the judges’ box as secretary, announcer and time keeper (time frame being a min. of 1 or max. of 3 years).
  5. Forward 3 independent capability assessments from Senior Officials appointed by NAMEF.

How do I get promoted?

To progress to the next higher level, you have to full fil the below-mentioned requirements according to the FEI Group IX Show Jumping Education Plan. Ensure that your logbook record is up to date as your signed logbook activities serve as prove of fulfillment of the requirements for promotion. If you can check all the requirements and feel ready to succeed to the next higher level, please hand in your logbook. NAMEF will then decide on your promotion to the next higher level.

Education

Learner Judge

  • Write and pass entry level test
  • Work at 6 National shows in the judges’ box as secretary, announcer and time keeper
  • Forward 3 independent capability assessments from a NAMEF Senior Official
  • Attend 1 Learner Judges seminar online or in person
  • Write Learner exam and pass with 80% to move to next level (may only attempted once per 12-month period)

Novice Judge

  • Work in the judges’ box for at least 3 years, min. 6 National shows
  • Attend 1 annual Judges seminar (online or in person)
  • Work at 2 National shows as shadow assistant steward
  • Forward 3 independent capability assessments with regional reports (judge must be FEI level 1 or higher
  • Write Novice exam and pass with 80% (may only be attempted once per 12-month period)

National Judge

  • Work in judges’ box for at least 1 year, min. 6 National shows or equivalent of 12 days
  • Forward 3 independent capability assessments (Judges must be FEI Level 1 or higher)
  • Attend the annual Judges seminar (online or in person for maintenance
  • Work at 1 show (must be National status) as a shadow assistant steward (full day)
  • Work at 1 full day show with a FEI level 1 course designer, or higher
  • Candidates will have a final assessment by 2 FEI Group IX appointed examiners of FEI Level 3* judges. (Minimum of 5 Case studies will be included in this assessment are not a test but for one –on- one experience only).
  • Write the National Judges exam and pass with 80% (may only be attempted once per 12-month period, and no more than twice in total).

FEI Level 1

  • Judge as National Judge for at least 1 year, min. of 6 National shows or equivalent of 12 days
  • Judge as National Judge at FEI World Jumping Challenge Leg 1-3 & receive an assessment from a foreign judge at leg 3
  • Attend 1 online or in person seminar during the 12-month period
  • Apply to NAMEF for a transfer to FEI Level 1
  • For FEI Level 1 status, the candidate must pass the FEI Level 1 examination
